After a two year spell from painting, I have found a return and renewal of play with the brush. The Dreaming in Colour series is an evolution of my work in abstraction, using an expressive movement of thin washes, whilst exploring the placement and impact of colour on the senses.
The paintings seem so simple I am often challenged to leave them as such. That being said, when I come to paint I place the critical mind to the side to allow a sense of intuition and openness to come forward in my awareness.
I let my hand and eye be drawn to whatever colour is 'beeping' me at the time, loading the brush and allowing the sweeping marks to form on the paper. It is then a matter of a 'zen like' repeating of this process until the moment arrives when a felt sense says, "Stop".
I put down the paint brush and review the painting. Sometimes the brush is picked up to make slight corrections of colour, but in general the piece is finished in an open and relaxed moment in time. The length of which I am not aware because I am so lost in the dreaming of colour.
All works are on Canson 290gsm professional art paper, unframed.
More from this new series is now available online through Bluethumb Art Gallery.
