- rainy day collage continued...
28th August 2014: It's been a long dry summer/ winter and we've been waiting for rain. It finally comes in August. A week of non-stop rain, wind, and cold which keeps me indoors, in the cabin, and couch bound doing collage. It's certainly not from a place of suffering. In fact I love it when the rains come and hence I'm not able to access my studio but stay tucked up in the cabin just playing scribble, sticky, and cut out fun! I always listen to recordings from teachers such as Rupert Spira (non-duality) or Adyashanti (spiritual and mediation) whilst doing collage. During the mindless pushing of pieces of paper around an A4 page, for what can be up to four hours before the composition settles, a few words will catch my attention and become the title of the piece. This series seem to have a theme of 'Story'. The story we tell ourselves and others, most of which is untrue. It's a wonderful mindless, playful, loosening up art practice on rainy days. Art materials include: old Arthur Mee children's encyclopaedias, gift wrapping paper, pieces of my own artwork, graphite/colour pencils and watercolours. Mx

- rainy day collage etc...
27th February 2013: Well it feels like it has been raining here for over 40 days and 40 nights, including a visit from Cyclone Oswald in late January. What to do? Well when the weather is as bad as this and I'm flooded in on the property, it's couch time surrounded by pencils, brushes, watercolours, glue, old books and papers whilst listening to my favourite non duality teacher, Rupert Spira. Each morning during this constant rain I have sat and played... letting the hand and eye go wherever on the page, making spontaneous marks. I've enjoyed flipping through the old Arthur Mee children's encyclopedias, ripping and tearing at images that inspire me. Then at some point, something Rupert says drops into my mindless awareness and settles. This becomes the name of the piece. Sometimes the titles and images seem to relate, others not. It's just about letting myself play. I then photograph the work with my iPhone 4s, app the images on the phone and create a framed collage which is posted to FB and Instagram. So this series of 'Rainy day collages etc...' is a spontaneous meandering and experiment of drawing + collage + digital into the world of social media. Cheers Mx
