2012
- grandmother's cup
- interior terrain series
- eclipsed
It was a year of exploring ideas and just letting myself play. Some pieces feel like they came together; others not. Overall it was a year of struggle... trying to let go, and yet I feel I was even trying too hard at that. The final piece 'Eclipsed' is a good example of my process both internally and externally, and probably won't make it into my top 10 faves. However, it was a joy to paint, giving myself permission to be OTT, and on reflection an understanding that 'less IS more'. In contrast, the first piece of the year 'Grandmother's Cup' is still one of my personal faves and hangs in my studio. The combination of abract pouring, textured surface like broken china, together with the graphite drawing of my grandmother's face and cup continues to speak to me. Mx
