2011 - consciousness

When I paint I love to allow the paint to do the work, that is, I love the experience of 'me - Melinda' getting out of the way and letting that mindless spacious awareness of being have its play. This series of paintings was an attempt to express this and hence called the 'consciousness' series. Each canvas started with adding texture and/or shapes, then a gentle, almost meditative blending of oils to the background, with finally a child-like play of paint pour, drip, splash until the moment arrived and the outward artistic expression ceased. It''s  like being a voyuer to creating and each of these artworks brings me back to that mindless spacious awareness of being with such joy and resting.  Mx
